Don Walsworth didn’t hold anything back during US Senior Open qualifying at Indian Hills Country Club, including his excitement after posting his four-under, 66.
Walsworth punched his first ticket to the US Senior Open, adding to his impressive list of USGA Championship appearances including the 1994 US Open (Oakmont CC) and the 1995 US Open (Shinnecock Hills CC). He has also appeared in the 1986 US Amateur, 2004 and 2009 US Mid Amateur and 2015 US Fourball championship.
Five birdies (No. 2, 8, 9, 14 and 18) propelled Walsworth to the medalist position.
Former PGA Championship major champion Mark Brooks finished one stroke behind Walsworth, with a three-under, 67.
The current Champions Tour golfer rolled in birdies on No. 4, 8, 14 and 18.
Brooks claimed the second automatic qualifying bid from the sectional event.
Rod Nuckolls secured the first alternate position with a two-under, 68, while Willie Wood defeated Ron Streck in a two-hole playoff for the second and final alternate position.
