Preston Fleenor left little doubt who was in control day one at the Kansas City Amateur Championship.
The Mizzou sophomore fired a seven-under, 64 at Shoal Creek Golf Course, en route to a three stroke lead entering Saturday’s second round.
Fleenor, a former Pembroke Hill golfer, tallied birdies on six holes and added an impressive eagle to cap off his front nine 32.
Three more birdies on the back nine helped Fleenor establish a three stroke lead over Alex Springer.
In total, Fleenor carded red numbers on No. 1, 4, 7, 9, 10, 13 and 16.
Five golfers enter round two tied for third, including 2015 Kansas City Amateur champion Ryne Fisher, and 2016 Kansas Amateur Match Play champion Blake Allen.
Ed Walsworth and Jay Gregory each share part of the seniors division lead entering day two.
Both posted two-under, 69s, respectively.
Bob Bezek sits atop the leaderboard for the legends division after his three-under 68.
Pat Hansen is the sole leader of the players division at eight-over, 79.
