Andy Spencer and Tanner Owen advance to the finals of the Kansas City Metro Match Play Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Andy Spencer and Tanner Owen advance to the finals of the Kansas City Metro Match Play Championship.  It was another perfect day for golf at Hillcrest Golf Club on Saturday, September 26, as the 12 boys arrived early and ready to play.

In the quarterfinal round, the number one overall seed Andy Spencer played the number eight seed William Esrey in the first match. Spencer played outstanding golf as he won the first hole and his lead continued to go up from there to advance to the semi-finals 6&5. The second match was between the number four seed Thomas Luger and number five seed Jake Propeck. Propeck led the match most of the day, but Luger kept it close not allowing Propeck to get a huge lead. Determined to win the match, Luger won the 17th hole to square the match heading onto the 18th hole where Propeck won the match.

The third quarterfinal match was between the number two seed Tanner Owen and number seven seed Joe Bultman. Bultman took off on an early lead, but the match went Owen’s way from the fourth hole on. Owen won the match 3 &1. The fourth quarterfinal match was between the number three seed Garrett Clark and number five seed Tripp Walsworth. Clark got off to an early start and things went his way from there out as he won 4&3.

In the first semifinal round, Spencer continued his outstanding round of golf as he shut out Propeck, not allowing him to win a single hole and win the match 7&6. The second semifinal round was between Owen and Clark. The match was back and forth until the seventh hole where Owen took control and maintained his lead to win the match 3&1 on the 17th green.

The Field is set for the 2015 Metro Match Play Championship

KANSAS City, Mo. – The 2015 Kansas City Metro Match Play Championship field is set after a nine-hole qualifier on Friday, September 25, at Hillcrest Golf Club.

It was a perfect Friday afternoon for a round of golf as 12 junior male golfers arrived at Hillcrest Golf Club to qualify for the 2015 Kansas City Metro Match Play Championship. The top eight golfers advanced to match play competition at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Andy Spencer and Tanner Owen led the field as they fired 37 (+1). One-stroke behind Spencer and Owen was Garrett Clark, Thomas Luger and Jake Propeck who posted 38 (+2). There was a three-way tie for sixth by Joe Bultman, William Esrey and Tripp Walsworth as they shot 40 (+4). Eric Pahls, Ethan Packel, Nicholas Klock and James O’Connor missed the cut.

Shamrock Hills Claim Their Fifth KC Cup Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Captain Jason Hull and Shamrock Hills Golf Club take home their fifth KC Cup title on Thursday, September 24 at Oakwood Country Club. Shamrock Hills defeated the Golf Club of Creekmoor to become the 2015 Kansas City Cup Champions.

This was the second KC Cup victory for Shamrock Hills in the last five years. Shamrock Hills won the championship 6 to 3, but it was a lot closer than it looks on the score sheet.

In match No. 1, Seth Adams and Shanon Elliot of Creekmoor controlled the entire match against Joey Angel and Travis Elliott of Shamrock Hills, never allowing Shamrock Hills to gain a lead and win 1-up. The second match was the complete opposite as Jon Troutman of Shamrock Hills easily dispatched Ben Kimminau of Creekmoor 5&4. The third match went Creekmoor’s way as Captain Frank Hoback defeated Chuck Admire 4&2.

Down one point with six matches left on the course, Shamrock Hills made their move. The Professional / Amateur Fourball match was extremely close as it ended all-square, awarding each team a half point, which made the score 2.5-1.5. All of a sudden, things changed for Shamrock Hills as Randy Tarvin and Ray Downing won 2&1 in the fifth match.

With the score all square through five matches at 2.5-2.5, Chris Sharp and Alex Aguirre of Shamrock Hills took over and won their Fourball match with a 3 & 2 victory. In match number seven, Mark Cooper and Jason Hull of Shamrock Hills did not allow Creekmoor a lead the entire match to win 3&2, putting Shamrock up 4.5-2.5 through seven matches.

With Creekmoor down 2 points with two matches to go, Alex Downing and Sam Allegri of Shamrock Hills defeated Creekmoor 5&3 in the eighth match to seal the KC Cup victory for Shamrock Hills Golf Club.  The final match was halved to produce a 6 – 3 final score and Shamrock Hills took the KC Cup trophy back to Lee’s Summit.

Staley Farms Wins Their First KC Cup Title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Staley Farms Golf Club earned their first Kansas City Cup title on Thursday, September 24. It was a perfect sunny day for golf at Oakwood Country Club as Blue Hills returned to the KC Cup finals to defend their title, but Staley Farms cruised to a 2-1 victory.

In match No. 1, Tracee Lechner and Tammy Harmon of Staley Farms defeated Ellen Fisher and Shelley Whipps of Blue Hills 5&4. Blue Hills bogeyed the second hole which gave Staley Farms a one-up lead. Staley Farms took off from there as they did not lose a hole to win 5&4.

In match No. 2, Diane Easley and Mary Ann Welsh of Blue Hills defeated Sharon Herr and Angel Harbison. It was a close battle between Staley Farms and Blue Hills on the front nine as there were three lead changes and three ties until the sixth hole when Blue Hills controlled the match the rest of the way to win 3&2.

In match No.3, Betty Crosby and Kathleen Campbell of Staley Farms defeated Diane Sparks and Missy Giocondo of Blue Hills. Blue Hills and Staley Farms battled back and forth as it came down to the 18th hole for Staley Farms to win 1-up and claim their first KC Cup title.

The Stateline Amateur Tour traveled to Raymore

RAYMORE, Mo – The Stateline Amateur Tour continued at the Golf Club at Creekmoor in Raymore, Missouri, on Thursday, September 10 after a three week break. Creekmoor marked the eighth of the 10 SLAT events in the 2015 season.

After a night and early morning of rain and storms that rolled through the Kansas City area, it turned into a perfect day for golf. There were 60 golfers that arrived to compete and play the long and challenging golf course at Creekmoor.

In the Senior division, Mark Addington led the way as he posted the only sub-par round in the division. Addington fired a 71 (-1), including three birdies. One-stroke behind Addington was the runner-up Greg Loteckie who posted 72 (E), including two birdies on the day.

The Legends gross division was led by Richard Landon who posted a bogeyless 68 (-4), including one eagle and two birdies. Two-strokes behind Landon was the runner-up Brad Robinson who posted 70 (-2), including six birdies on the day.  In the Legends net division, Brad Robinson and Richard Landon tied for first as they posted a 66 (-6).

In the Open division, Matt Kelley led the way as he posted a 75 (+3), carding two birdies on the day. There was a tie for second in the Open division between Craig Broswick and Rob Werling as they posted 76 (+4), one-stroke behind Kelley.

In the Players division, there was a two-way tie for first as Charley Doering and Eddie Sanchez Jr. inked a 75 (+3) on their scorecards. Tom Pickert finished third as he fired a 77 (+5), as he carded one birdie on the day. In the Women’s division, Amanda Hanneman edged Addie Chapin firing a 79 (+8). Chapin finished runner-up, one stroke behind Hanneman as she posted an 80 (+9).

The next Stateline Amateur Tour event will be held on September 30 at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Richard Landon Qualifies for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

OLATHE, Kan. – The 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Sectional Qualifier took place at Shadow Glen Golf Club on Tuesday, September 1st. There were 28-golfers all battling for one qualifying spot to compete in the USGA’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

“Shadow Glen was conceived to meet the high standards of the dedicated golfer while capturing the magnificent beauty of the rolling, wooded terrain, Shadow Glen wraps itself around hills and bluffs as though it has always been here.”

The senior golfers played a 6,720-yard, par 72 championship course. Richard Landon from Olathe, Kansas, inked a 73 (+1) on his scorecard to edge the runner-up Scott Sullivan by one-stroke and punch his ticket to the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Landon shot par or better on 16 of the 18 holes as he carded one birdie on the day. Sullivan earned the first alternate as he fired 74 (+2). Eric Mork posted a 76 (+4) to earn the second alternate spot.

The 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, on September 26th-October 1st. Hidden Creek opened in 2002 and is carved out of the woodlands in New Jersey. The U.S. Senior Amateur will be the first USGA championship for the Egg Harbor Township, N.J., facility.

Michael Greene and Charlie Stevens Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur

St. JOSEPH, Mo. – The 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Sectional Qualifier took place at St. Joseph Country Club on Thursday, August 27th.

St. Joseph Country Club is a 6,529 yard, par-71 championship course. It ranks No. 11 amongst the Kansas City Area Private Golf Courses (ranked by USGA rating) in the KC Metro area. There were 34-golfers competing for two qualifying spots at St. Joe.

Michael Greene from Overland Park, Kansas, posted the overall lowest score firing 69 (-2), carding three birdies and one eagle on the day to earn the first qualifying spot. There was a tie for second between Charlie Stevens from Wichita, Kansas, and David Rismiller from Kansas City, Missouri, at 70 (-1). Stevens and Rismiller went into a playoff for the second qualifying spot, as Stevens eagled the first playoff hole to earn the second qualifying spot, making Rismiller the first alternate. Josh Weems from Lake Quivira, Kansas, earned the second alternate in a playoff against Travis Holt.

The 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Florida on October 3rd-8th. The U.S. Mid-Amateur, for golfers 25 and older, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. John’s Island Club is a 6,830 yard, par-71, championship course designed by Tom Fazio.

Erin Carney and Carmen Titus Qualify for U.S. Women’s Mid-Am

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The U.S. Women’s Mid-Am Sectional Qualifier took place at Blue Springs Country Club on Tuesday, August 25.

The 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will be hosted at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana, on October 3rd-8th. Squire Creek has hosted U.S. Open Championship local qualifying in 2008 and 2009 as well as the Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur. It is also the home course for the Louisiana Tech University men’s golf team.

Erin Carney and Carmen Titus both qualified on Tuesday at Blue Springs Country Club, a 5,987 yard, par-72 course. Carney fired a 79 (+7), carding four birdies on the day. Titus was the second qualifier as she posted an 82 (+10).

Amanda Hanneman was the first alternate at 84 (+13) and Dee Johnson earned the second alternate spot as she posted 92 (+20).

The Stateline Amateur Tour Spends the Day at the Lake

LAKE QUIVIRA, Kan. – Lake Quivira Country Club hosted the seventh Stateline Amateur Tour event of the 2015 season on Monday, August 17.

Lake Quivira is a 6,389-yard, par 71 championship course with tight and narrow fairways that was built into the rolling hills of Kansas. The Stateline Amateur Tour (SLAT) was divided into six divisions totaling 60 golfers.

The Open division was led by Matt Kelley who fired 70 (-1), including six birdies on the day. Ten strokes behind Kelley was Steve Rufino who posted 80 (+9). In the Players division, Matt Barberich led the 27-golfer field as he posted 72 (+1). Four strokes behind Barberich was the runner-up Michael Buckhouse who fired 76 (+5).

In the Senior division, Ed Walsworth led the way as he inked a 68 (-3) on his scorecard. Walsworth had four birdies and one eagle on the day. The runner-up in the Seniors division was Steve Groom who posted 71 (E). Dave Harris led the Legends division as he posted 73 (+2), including two birdies on the day. There was a three-way tie for second between Jerry Reid, Ron Brewer, and Richard Landon as the three legends posted a 75 (+4).

Chandler Gallagher led the Women’s Open division as she posted 74 (+3), including two birdies on the day. The runner-up in the Women’s Open division was Mackenzie Black at 82 (+11). In the Women’s division, Addie Chapin led the way as she posted an 82 (+11). The runner-up was Amanda Hanneman at 86 (+15).

Congratulations to Greg Hillman as made a hole-in-one on No. 14, a 169-yard par three!

The Stateline Amateur Tour Played in Paradise

SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The 2015 Stateline Amateur Tour competed in the 2015 SLAT Team Championship at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville, Missouri on Tuesday, August 11.

The Stateline Amateur Tour Team Championship is a new event for the 2015 SLAT season. It is formatted as a two-man team tournament, and one player must be a member of the SLAT. The team championship was divided into two separate flights that were decided by team handicap. Each flight competed in both gross and net scoring.

It was a near perfect day for golf at Paradise Pointe Golf Course as the seven teams in each flight competed against one another. The two flights played the front nine as a four-ball format and the back nine as alternate shot.

The team of Steve Groom and Don Kuehn fired a 66 (-6) to win the first flight in gross scoring. Mark Worthey and Mittal Patel won the first flight in net scoring as they posted 65 (-7). The second flight was led by Pat Goeke and Andrew Makowske as they posted a 72 (E) to win the flight in gross scoring. Bob Hunter and Willie Scott won the second flight in net scoring as they posted a team score of 67 (-5).

Jack Garvin also posted an 80 (+8). The next SLAT event is at Lake Quivira Country Club on Monday, August 17th.
