Scarsella Leads Field at The Golf Club of Creekmoor
The Stateline Amateur Tour was at The Golf Club at Creekmoor on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Sixty-two players competed in the event.
In the open division, Guglielmo Mandina fired a round of two-over par, 74, to win by one shot. Luke Lutgen came in second place with a score of three-over, 75. Craig Broswick and Jimmy Saporito both tied for third place after shooting 76.
John Scarsella claimed the victory in the senior division with a score of one-over, 73. Greg Loteckie finished in second with a 77 and Mark Worthey rounded out third place firing a seven-over, 79.
Pete Robbins fired a two-over, 74, to take the legends division title. Jim Lodes, David Hornaday, and Sam Vanlandingham all tied for second place with rounds of 75.
In the players division, Carter Likes, Michael Buckhouse, and Michael Armentrout all tied with rounds of six-over par, 78, to claim medalist honors.
The next Stateline Amateur Tour event is at Canyon Farms Golf Club on September 18 and will be a stableford format!
Team Missouri Wins Women’s Fore State Competition
The annual women’s Fore State Championship was held at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Missouri on August 1-2. Teams from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma bring teams of twelve women to compete in a Ryder Cup-style competition playing Four Ball and Foursomes on day 1, and singles matches on Day 2. Each team consists of six amateurs under the age of 40 and six mid-amateurs age 40 and over.
Team Missouri won this year’s spirited competition.
Day 1 results:
Four ball: AR 2.5, KS 3, MO 4.5 and OK 2.
Foursome:AR 3.5, KS 3, MO 3.5 and OK 2.

Singles matches: AR 2, KS 5.5, MO 9, and OK 7.5

Saporito, Groom Victorious at Shoal Creek
The Stateline Amateur Tour was at Shoal Creek Golf Course, Tuesday, August 29. James Saporito fired an even par round of 71, to claim medalist honors in the open division. His round included five birdies. Brent Mertz took second with a score of four-over, 75. There was a two-way tie for third place between Logan Truninger and Guglielmo Mandina who both shot five-over, 76.
Steve Groom’s round included three birdies and an eagle and he finished with a score of two-under, 69. He won the senior division by seven shots over John Scarsella, Don Kuehn, and Jim Gates who all tied for second place shooting rounds of 76.
Jettie Bezek won the legends division with a score of even par, 71. Mike Houtteman claimed second with a 72. There was a four-way tie for third in the legends between Jim Seward, Matt Miller, Bob Bezek, and Fran Ferns. They all fired scores of two-over, 73.
The players division was led by Dennis McCormack and Dale Nash who both fired rounds of even par, 71. Carter Likes and Kevin Rome both tied for third place shooting three-over, 74.

Broswick Claims SLAT Victory at Swope Memorial GC
Seventy-five players competed in the Stateline Amateur Tour Event at Swope Memorial Golf Course on Thursday, August 17. Craig Broswick fired a 5-under par, 67, on route to a six shot victory in the open division. His bogey free round included five birdies. Richard Hairgrove fired a 73 to claim second place. There was a three-way tie for third at three-over, 75, between Chris Beaubien, Jason Cross, and Austin Williams.
In the players division, Ritch Nigh shot a one-over, 73, to win the division. Coming in second was Carter Likes with a 74. Third place was shared between Matt Helm and Dale Nash with scores of 75.
Jim Seward fired a two-under par, 70, in the legends division. Pete Robbins claimed second with an even par round of 72. Sam Vanlandingham came in third with a two-over, 74.
Mark Addington and Steve Groom shared the top spot in the senior division with rounds of two-under, 70. Robert Booth finished in third place shooting a 74.

Albers/Clarke and Alexander/Purinton Win KWGA Tee-Fore-Two
The Kansas Women’s Golf Association celebrated 50 years of team competition with the Tee-F0re-Two at Lawrence CC August 7-9. Tee-Fore-Two has historically been one of the most fun and popular events on the KWGA competition schedule. Lawrence CC proved a worthy challenge for the thirty-eight teams competing for both overall gross and net titles and within their flights.
Three days of competition including four ball, Chapman alternate shot and scramble comprise the competition. Carol Arner and Rose Schuh led the overall gross competition after the first round four ball firing an 80, and Teri Alexander and Angela Purinton took the overall net lead with a 68. Laurie Hughey and Susan Mueller held the overall gross lead after the difficult Chapman alternate shot format with a second round 80 for a 161 two-day total. Darlene Lamb and Kathy Thomas took over the top spot in the net competition with a strong net 54 for a 127 total. The final round belonged to Teri Albers and Jayne Clarke who fired a 68 – the only gross under par round of the day. Alexander and Purinton reclaimed their lead in the overall net competition with a net 56.

KC Native Steve Groom Leads British Senior Amateur
Wegner, Aerni Share Medalist Honors at KCJT Championship
The Kansas City Junior Tour Championship ended its season on August 3 at Lake Quivira Championship. Ethan Wegner and Blake Aerni fired rounds of three-over, 74, to win the boys 16 and over division. Joseph Duggan, Andy Scholz, Keegan Glade, Aaron Robinson, and Garrett Clark all tied for third place with rounds of 75.
Lauren Wood won the girls 16 and over division by two strokes. Wood fired an eleven-over, 82, to claim the victory. Molly Saporito and Lauren Muller finished second and third respectively with scores of 84 and 85.
Nate Saporito won the boys 13-15 division with an outstanding score of one-under, 70. Christian Mergia and August Hoffman both tied for second place, one stroke back of Mergia.
In the girls 13-15 division, Maggie King fired an 83 to win by six shots over Abby Howard who took second. Hope Robinett finished in third place shooting a 93.
In the boys prep division, Myles King shot a four-over, 40, to take the title. Jack Michael Cobb and Logan Schreck finished in second and third place with scores of 44 and 48.

Likes Steady in Victory at Dub’s Dread
The Stateline Amateur Tour continued its season at Dub’s Dread Golf Course on August 2. Forty-eight players participated in the event.
In the senior division, Mark Worthey fired a one-over par, 73, to win by two shots. Robert Booth and Steve Groom both shot rounds of three-over, 75, to tie for second place.
Ron Brewer won the legends division with a score of two-over, 74. His margin of victory was only one, over David Hornaday who took second place with a three-over, 75. Sam Vanlandingham and Fran Ferns both tied for third in the legends division posting five-over, 77.
Jeff Mason fired a four-over, 76, to lead the open division. Bryan Meyer finished second with a 77. Jason Cross and Alex Teeling both tied for third place after shooting scores of eight-over, 80.
Last but not least, Carter Likes won the players division by five shots. Likes shot an even-par round of 72 with two bogeys, two birdies, and fourteen pars on his scorecard. Ritch Nigh, Dale Nash, and Andrew Makowske all tied for second after shooting 77.

Likes, Coughlin Claim Titles at KCJT Sunflower Hills
73 players teed it up at Sunflower Hills Golf Course for the second to last KCJT event of the season on Tuesday, August 1. Beautiful weather greeted the players and conditions were ideal for scoring.
In the boys 16+ division, Jackson Likes won with a score of even par, 72. Eric Nicholson shot a four-over, 76, to claim second place. Garrett Clark finished third with a five-over, 77.
In the girls 16+ division, Lauren Wood fired a six-over, 78, to win the division. Sarah Lawson finished in second with a score of 82. Lauren Muller finished a shot back of Lawson at 83 to round out the girls 16+ division in third place.
Liam Coughlin won the boys 13-15 division, with a one-under, 71. There was a three-way tie for second place between Grant Beichley, Griffin Brassell, and Christian Mergia who all fired rounds of two-over, 74.
Maggie King fired the only round in the 70’s of the girls 13-15 division with a score of four-over, 76. She took home medalist honors. There was a two-way tie for second between Vera Bohning and Tess Roman who both shot rounds of 82.
In the boys prep division, Jack Michael Cobb defeated Myles King by one shot to take home the victory. Cobb fired a two-over 38, King shot a three-over 39, and Ryan Wall finished in third with a 43.
