The 2017 Kansas City Junior Championship was held May 31—June 1, at Brookridge Golf and Country Club. The tournament field was comprised of 68 players. Inclement weather suspended play for a total of three hours and six minutes during round one. Joe Bultman and Ryan Bender both handled the conditions well carding rounds of 71, good enough to take the lead by two shots going into the final round. Bultman birdied two of his last four holes in round one, which resulted in an under par back nine and an overall round of even par. Bender played a very consistent round, making two birdies, two bogies, and fourteen pars.
Ryan Bender who was tied for the lead with Joe Bultman entering the second and final round of the Kansas City Junior Championship, got off to a strong start and maintained it the rest of the day. He made 3 birdies and only carded one bogey, good enough to take the championship in the boy’s division. His two-day total was 140, two-under par. Justin Wingerter, fired scores of 73, 75, which put him in second place. There was a four-way tie for third, at seven-over par, between Jake Propeck, Michael Winslow, Joe Bultman, and Thomas Luger.
In the girl’s division, Julia Misemer and Rosie Klausner led the way after round one with scores of two-over par, 74. Megan Propeck and Samantha Paulak shot 76 and 77, respectively, heading into the final round. In the final round, Megan Propeck started off slow with a bogey on her first hole, but played steady golf making the turn in even par on the day. She went on to birdie holes 10 and 11 and parred the last five holes to win the girl’s division of the Kansas City Junior Championship. Her one-under, 71, on day two put her total at 147, defeating Rosie Klausner by four shots. Klausner finished second with rounds of 74 and 77. Julia Misemer, who was tied with Klausner for the lead after day one, finished in third place, shooting a six-over, 78, on the last day.
