QUARTERFINAL ROUND

The winner of each of the five divisions will qualify for the 2023 Kansas Cup Playoffs.  Additionally, three “wild card” teams will also advance to the 2023 Kansas Cup Playoffs.  The Quarterfinal Round matches and host courses is detailed below.  Tie breaking procedures to determine playoff qualifiers is detailed below.  The Quarterfinal Round playoff matches must be played by the end of September.

BREAKING TIES FOR DIVISION WINNERS:

If two teams in a division end up the regular season with the same number of division wins, the tie shall be broken based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. Head-to-head division wins between the tied teams.  If teams split divisional matches;
  2. The team with the largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied,
  3. The team with the largest number of singles points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied,
  4. Lot

BREAKING TIES FOR PLAYOFF “WILD CARD” TEAMS

To determine the three (3) “wild card” teams that will advance to the 2023 Kansas Cup Playoffs, the “wild card” teams will be determined based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. The teams that are not a division winner with the most overall wins in divisional play will advance to the playoffs as the wild card team (an overall tied match counts as a 1/2 point win).  If still tied;
  2. The team with the largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied;
  3. The team with the largest number of singles points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied;
  4. Lot

DETERMINING SEEDS FOR PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL BRACKET:

All teams in the 2023 Kansas Cup Playoffs shall be seeded, but in no event shall the “wildcard” teams be seeded higher than a division winner.  Division winners will be bracketed and seeded #1 through #5.  The “wildcard” teams will be the #6, #7 and #8 seeds in the playoff quarterfinal bracket.  Teams will be seeded based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. Largest number of division wins.  If still tied,
  2. Largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied,
  3. Largest number of singles points earned in its division matches.  If still tied,
  4. Lot

#8 Buffalo Dunes GC def. #1 Wellington GC – 6 to 3
#4 Terradyne CC def. #5 The Jayhawk Club – 4.5 to 4.5 (won in sudden death)
#2 Salina CC def. #7 Colbert Hills GC – 7.5 to 1.5
#3 GreatLife-Salina def. #6 Wamego CC – 8.5 to 0.5

The Quarterfinal playoff matches need to be completed by October 12 at the latest. Teams involved in each playoff match should work together to find an agreeable date to play this match.

SEMIFINAL ROUND

The four quarterfinal winners will advance to the “final four weekend” on Friday, October 13th at Firekeeper Golf Course. Match times will run from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Anticipated yardages for the Final 4 matches are: 6,900 yards for Pro/Am Four-Ball, Open Singles and 6,100 yards for all other matches.

Players competing in the Kansas Cup Final 4 at Firekeeper GC are invited to stay at the Prairie Band Resort hotel located across the street from Firekeeper. Rooms are limited at this discounted rate and the hotel will sell out since this event is on a weekend so players are encouraged to make reservations early. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND


The two clubs advancing to the championship round of the Kansas Cup shall compete for the title at Firekeeper Golf Course on Saturday, October 14th with match times from 10:50 am to 12:00 pm.

PLAYOFF MATCH TIED AFTER COMPLETION OF INDIVIDUAL MATCHES (IN PLAYOFFS ONLY)

In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the nine matches, a playoff shall be conducted according to the following procedures and matches involved:

The Open (non-Senior) Singles Match players, the Senior Modified Chapman Match teams, and the Open/Senior Mixed Four-Ball Match teams.  There will then be three matches played, each at sudden death starting from hole #1.  This means there will be three points at stake in sudden death.  The team that wins two points shall win the match.  Note: all three sudden death matches must be contested against the same opponent.  In the interest of time and as a convenience to the players involved, the sudden-death points for the Senior Modified Chapman Match and Open Singles Match may be contested prior to the conclusion of other matches.
